Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 18th and early 19th centuries, carved wooden novelties known as treen were popular for holding powdered tobacco, or snuff. Shoe-shaped boxes were frequently crafted as love tokens, gifts, or decorative personal accessories during the Georgian era.

These items were predominantly carved from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or fruitwood. Ornamental designs were often executed using pique work, where tiny brass or silver pins were hammered into the wood surface in decorative patterns.

Authentic Georgian examples feature hand-carved construction, period brass pin decoration, and smooth sliding or hinged lids. Age-appropriate wear, natural oxidisation of the timber, and hand-cut joinery distinguish genuine period pieces from later reproductions.

Display small treen objects inside a glass curio cabinet, on a stack of art books, or atop a gentlemans desk. Combining rich dark mahogany with modern minimal backgrounds accentuates the intricate metal pin work.

Keep the object away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Clean gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove dust from around the brass pins, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to preserve the wood.
