Frequently Asked Questions

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This childs chair dates from the 1920 period and follows the Thonet style. Made from beech and cane, the piece has a black colour and a natural colour. It features a double-loop backrest, a round woven cane seat, and splayed turned legs. Scuffs and surface wear appear on the black paint finish along the rounded seat rim and the upper loop of the backrest. The chair measures 63 cm high, 32 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Position this small piece in an empty corner of a living room, bedroom, or hallway within an English Country House interior. The compact proportions suit a childs seating arrangement or a decorative display surface for small ornaments, plants, or books in a domestic setting.

FAQs

Developed in the mid-19th century by Michael Thonet, bentwood furniture relies on steaming solid wood, usually beech, to bend it into curved shapes without breaking.

These chairs typically feature steam-bent beechwood frames paired with hand-woven rattan cane seats for lightweight structural strength.

Look for paper makers labels or stamped brand names underneath the seat frame, alongside visible hand-carved joinery, bentwood loop construction, and natural age-related wear to the cane weave.

A miniature bentwood chair functions well as a decorative accent in a bedroom, holding a folded throw or potted plant, or placed alongside a nursery bookshelf.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources to prevent the cane from drying out, gently dust the weave with a soft brush, and lightly hydrate the cane underside with water occasionally to retain flexibility.
