FAQs

Toilet mirrors, also known as dressing mirrors or shaving mirrors, became popular in the late 17th century and evolved through the Georgian and Victorian eras as essential bedroom accessories for personal grooming.

Traditional pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often featuring finely dovetailed drawer boxes, turned upright supports, and mercury or silvered glass plates.

Maintain the item by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, feeding the wood periodically with appropriate wax, and avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity to protect the frame and silvered glass.

This piece can be placed atop a modern sideboard or chest of drawers to introduce historical texture, warmth, and a functional reflective surface into a bedroom or hallway scheme.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the secondary woods, hand-cut dovetail joints, old mirror glass with foxing or distortion, hand-turned finials, and original fixings or brackets.
