Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency games box is a decorative wooden container produced during the early 19th century, specifically designed to store playing cards, counters, or gaming pieces. Typically featuring fine lacquer work or hand-painted decoration, these boxes served as functional status symbols in Georgian and Regency drawing rooms.

These boxes were primarily crafted from woods such as mahogany, pine, or fruitwood, which were then veneered, lacquered, or hand-painted with detailed botanical designs. Accent elements often included cast brass or wood ball feet, metal keyhole escutcheons, and paper or silk lining.

Authentic Regency pieces usually display fine craquelure on the painted finish, natural surface wear around edges and keyholes, and period-correct joinery such as fine dovetails. Original metal hardware, early lock mechanisms, and minor timber shrinkage further indicate authentic early 19th-century origin.

Place the box on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or coffee table alongside contemporary ceramics or structured art books. Its detailed painted pattern provides contrasting visual texture and historical depth to modern minimalist or classic interior schemes.

Keep the box away from direct sunlight, central heating sources, and humid environments to prevent wood movement and lacquer cracking. Dust gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water, solvent cleaners, or wax polishes that could damage the original paint.
