A 19thc Campaign Writing Slope

£240    $321    €281
A small 19thC rosewood campaign writing slope.'' Campaign'' because of the flush military style side lifting handles which enabled less space to be taken up when packing items to go on campaign. Working sprung lock with key. Brass escutcheon and owners cartouche to the top (un inscribed). Original brass hinges. Re baized writing surface which has storage space below. Pen tray with a brass ring pull. Two glass inks, one with a faceted top and screw on brass cap smaller than the other but fitted to its well. The larger of the two with an 1886 penny riveted to the cork bung. Very little age related damage and overall a very sweet item circa 1840.

30.5 cm wide 25.5 cm deep and 10.5 cm high.

51.5 cm deep when open.
