FAQs

French porcelain boxes gained immense popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries, often produced in renowned manufacturing centres such as Limoges and Paris to serve as luxury containers for vanity items and keepsakes.

These pieces are crafted from hard-paste or soft-paste porcelain, meticulously hand-painted with mineral pigments, highlighted with gilded accents, and fitted with brass or gilt-metal mounts and clasps.

Authenticity is determined by examining the porcelain body, hand-brushwork details, age-appropriate wear on the gilding, and the style of the metal hinges and latches typical of the period.

Placed on a mantelpiece, dressing table, or bookshelf, these small decorative items add a touch of historical texture, colour, and refined craftsmanship to modern spaces.

Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth to avoid damaging delicate hand-painted motifs and gilding, and keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
