Pier mirrors, or pier glasses, were traditionally designed to sit on the wall space between two windows or above a fireplace. In 19th-century France, these pieces frequently featured tall rectangular profiles, molded gesso detailing, arched shoulders, and painted or gilded finishes intended to maximize natural light reflection within grand reception rooms.
