Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late seventeenth century, a bureau or toilet mirror is a tabletop looking glass designed to sit atop a dressing table, chest of drawers, or bureau. Often featuring a swinging frame mounted above a base containing small drawers, these pieces were traditionally used for personal grooming and storing small accessories.

These mirrors typically feature figured walnut veneers applied over a solid hardwood core, often with hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and turned upright supports. Decorative brass hardware, brass tilt-tension handles, and bevelled or silvered mirror glass are standard characteristics of this period style.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display natural wear to the base underside, hand-cut dovetail joints within the drawers, and period-accurate brass fittings. Look for natural patination in the walnut grain and gentle age spots or silvering shifts on the mirror plate.

Position the piece atop a contemporary sideboard, console table, or chest of drawers to add warmth and historical texture. The integrated drawers offer functional storage for jewellery and everyday items while providing architectural height to tabletop vignettes.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish twice yearly to preserve the wood finish. Clean the glass plate using a slightly damp cloth with mild vinegar water, avoiding moisture contact with the surrounding timber moulding.
