The chair is a wonderful rich colour with a great patina and unfortunately the images don’t do it justice!

A wainscot chair is an early form of wooden armchair, typically constructed from oak, featuring a panelled back that evolved from wall panelling of the same name during the 16th and 17th centuries in England.

These chairs were traditionally crafted from solid English oak using mortise and tenon joints, pegged construction, and hand-carved panels often decorated with floral or geometric motifs.

Authentic pieces display period tool marks, hand-cut joinery with wooden pegs, natural patination from centuries of use, and timber shrinkage consistent with age.

Pair this historic seating with clean-lined contemporary furniture or use it as a striking accent piece in a minimalist space to create a strong textural contrast.

Maintain antique oak furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
