Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency armchairs, dating from the early 19th century, are characteristically influenced by classical Greek and Roman architecture, featuring neoclassical lines, reeded frames, swept sabre or turned legs, and prominent scroll terminals on the armrests.

Craftsmen during the Regency period primarily utilised dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, often paired with traditional joinery techniques such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, natural horsehair padding, and hand-woven or velvet upholstery.

Authentic Regency chairs display hand-planed timbers, irregular tool marks underneath the frame, natural patination in lower recesses, original dowel or peg joinery, and neoclassically proportioned carved elements like reeding or rosettes.

Regency carvers function effectively as head-of-table dining chairs, accent seating flanking a sideboard, or as desk chairs in a study, providing a historical anchor alongside contemporary or minimalist furniture.

Mahogany wood frames should be cleaned with a soft microfiber cloth and polished periodically with a beeswax polish, while velvet upholstery should be gently vacuumed with a soft brush attachment and kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
