Description:

Here is a good quality antique Anglo-Indian colonial Victorian solid teak dressing table mirror, circa 1870, with original mirror, in good original condition. The mirror, which is original, shows signs of foxing (please see photos), but this does not detract from the overall look of the item. We have offered this item with its original mirror, as some people prefer it to be original. However, if you prefer to have a new mirror fitted, it can be replaced for £45 (this is for a non-bevelled mirror). If you would like it to be replaced, please let us know. If you would like it to be replaced, please let us know. The angle of the mirror can be adjusted simply by tilting the mirror itself. Two original iron loops are fitted to the top rail of the mirror frame, presumably to allow the mirror to be hung on the wall, if desired. The mirror frame is raised on scroll shaped supports, finished with finely turned finials where the supports attach to the frame and terminating at the bottom on a shaped base, which in turn rests on turned pad feet.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Anglo-Indian furniture from the nineteenth century combines traditional British furniture forms, such as Victorian toilet mirrors and sideboards, with Indian craftsmanship and native hardwoods like teak and rosewood. These pieces often feature hand-carved detailing, turned turnings, and robust joinery designed to withstand tropical climates.

Victorian tabletop mirrors were primarily constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or colonial teak, fitted with brass swivel mechanisms and screws. The mirror plates featured silvered or mercury glass, which naturally develops subtle spotting and oxidisation over time.

Authentic nineteenth-century dressing table mirrors typically exhibit original mercury glass with natural silvering loss or foxing, hand-cut joinery, and period-correct brass friction knobs on the swivel uprights. The timber on the underside and back panels should show historic wear and unpolished oxidation consistent with age.

A Victorian or colonial toilet mirror can be positioned atop a modern sideboard, chest of drawers, or vanity desk to create visual height. Pairing the rich, dark timber with neutral walls, minimalist ceramics, or contemporary lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior design.

Maintain the timber frame by dusting with a soft lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly along the grain. Avoid chemical glass cleaners on antique mirror plates, as moisture can seep behind the frame and accelerate silvering decay; instead, wipe the glass gently with a dry or slightly dampened microfiber cloth.
