This pair of antique early 20th century Victorian style gypsy wall mirrors consists of rectangular items made from wood, gesso, glass, and gilt. The frames display a gold and green colour scheme with an embossed floral and leaf pattern, and the glass incorporates bevelled edges, an etched urn design, and a hand-painted floral bouquet in red, white, and yellow. Measuring 86 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 2.5 cm deep, the pair includes intact glass with some signs of age and wear alongside minor losses to the carved and moulded frames. These decorative mirrors suit placement above a sideboard in an English Country House style interior. Such wall mirrors function effectively in hallways, living rooms, or dining spaces to reflect light and add traditional character to domestic settings. The construction combines glass and timber elements with detailed floral motifs and textured finishes that complement period interior decoration.

Popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, these mirrors feature hand-painted floral motifsoften depicting wildflowers or urn arrangementsdirectly applied onto the glass, housed within ornate gilded or gesso frames.

Craftspeople typically used bevelled mirror plate glass, oil or enamel paints applied by hand, and moulded gesso frames finished with gilt paint or gold leaf overlay.

Authentic examples often exhibit visible brushwork, minor natural paint crazing, hand-etched glass details, original wooden backing boards, and light oxidisation or foxing to the mirror silvering.

Flanking a central focal point such as an entryway console table, mantelpiece, or bedhead creates symmetrical balance while adding botanical character to a modern space.

Clean the glass gently with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth, avoiding direct application of liquid glass cleaners or harsh chemicals near the painted areas and delicate gilt frame.
