FAQs

Victorian burr walnut furniture is characterised by the use of highly figured veneer taken from walnut tree burls, popular during the mid-to-late 19th century for its distinct swirling grain patterns.

These pieces typically feature solid timber carcases veneered in burr walnut, incorporating hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, turned wood handles, and solid plinth bases.

Authentic Victorian examples feature original hand-cut dovetail joinery, secondary timber drawer linings such as pine or oak, historical drawer locks, and natural surface patination.

A matching pair of tall walnut chests adds natural timber texture and classical proportions when paired alongside modern upholstered bedframes or neutral contemporary colour schemes.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain twice a year to maintain moisture and protect the wood veneer.
