Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian armchair belongs in a gentleman's library or study, providing a comfortable reading seat by a fireside. The solid mahogany frame supports a high, shaped backrest and padded armrests, upholstered in deep burgundy leather. Traditional brass studwork borders the upholstery, complemented by button tufting across the back and carved scroll elements on the arms. The dark brown timber shows polished wooden finishes, while the front supports consist of turned legs terminating in brass castors. The seat measures 107 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 78 cm deep, offering adjustable reclining functions and an extending footrest for daily use. Built during the Victorian period, the piece combines decorative mouldings and exposed wooden joinery with sturdy antique construction. The adjustable mechanism allows users to alter the seating angle, while the castor wheels provide mobility across floor surfaces. Placed in a study, library, or living room, the armchair functions as both a decorative period item and a practical seat. The dark red leather surface and polished wood elements coordinate with traditional interior colour schemes, maintaining a classic aesthetic suited to period homes.

Originating in the 19th century, Victorian reclining library chairs were designed for reading rooms and study spaces, incorporating mechanical ratchets or hinges to allow the backrest to adjust for comfort.

These chairs were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, featuring traditional joinery, horsehair upholstery stuffing, hand-tacked leather, and brass castors.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-turned wood components, brass cup castors, stamped or carved details, original metal reclining hardware, and natural age-related patina on the timber frame and leather.

Position this armchair alongside a contemporary floor lamp in a home office, study, or living room reading nook to create contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep the leather conditioned with dedicated leather wax to prevent drying, protect the timber frame from direct heat sources, and clean the brass castors periodically to ensure smooth operation.
