Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century walnut side chair represents the Victorian Chippendale Revival style in warm brown timber with a re-webbed and re-covered drop-in seat pad. The detailed carving displays an acanthus leaf pattern on the front cabriole legs, shaped slipper feet, a pierced splat within the backrest, and a decorative cresting rail along the top. The textile upholstery shows a repeating geometric pattern in shades of yellow and dark brown. Measuring 94 cm in height, 51 cm in width, 41 cm in depth, and 46 cm from the floor to the seat, this seating piece works effectively as an occasional chair in a living room, hallway, or bedroom.

FAQs

Chippendale Revival side chairs produced in the 19th century draw inspiration from 18th-century designs, characterized by intricate pierced back splats, ornate cresting rails, and carved cabriole legs terminating in pad or claw-and-ball feet.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, secured with traditional mortise and tenon joinery and finished with hand-applied French polish or beeswax.

Authentic period pieces exhibit subtle asymmetry in hand-carved decorative elements, historical patination along contact points, original corner blocking underneath the seat frame, and signs of hand-planed woodwork.

A single walnut side chair functions effectively as an accent piece beside a writing desk, placed within a hallway corner, or mixed with modern dining furniture to create visual texture.

Preserve the wood by dusting regularly with a dry soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste annually, while keeping the item away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
