This console table follows a French Rococo style, originating from a period later than 1960. It is constructed from giltwood with a white marble surface, displaying a gold and white colour scheme. Notable decorative elements include cabriole legs, acanthus leaf carvings, and elaborate rocaille scrolls. The surface is carved throughout with detailed asymmetrical scrolls, and the structural frame rests on curved legs finished in a bright gold gilt. Measuring 30 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 30 cm deep, the table suits placement beside the front door or within a hallway setting. It functions as a decorative surface for displaying small lamps or ornamental items in a formal reception space.

Originating in 18th-century France under Louis XV, Rococo giltwood console tables feature asymmetrical S-scrolls, acanthus leaf carvings, and rocaille shell motifs. These wall-supported tables were created as architectural accents for grand reception rooms and galleries.

These pieces were typically carved from softwoods or hardwoods such as lime, pine, or oak, then coated with gesso and gold leaf through water gilding. The table surface was commonly finished with a heavy, contoured marble slab.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-carved joinery details, natural oxidisation on the gilded surface, and evidence of reddish-clay bole beneath the gold leaf. The underside of the frame and marble slab should exhibit hand-worked tool marks rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

Positioning a gilded console table against a neutral or dark backdrop creates a focal point in an entryway or living room. Combining the elaborate gilded carving with understated contemporary artwork or modern lighting generates an intentional contrast.

Dust giltwood surfaces gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to avoid flaking fragile gold leaf. Avoid liquid cleaners, polish, or damp cloths, and maintain steady humidity levels to prevent timber movement beneath the gesso layer.
