This early 19th-century Georgian work table, originally a cellaret, comes in rich brown mahogany with contrasting satinwood inlay, bone escutcheons, and polished brass ring handles. The rectangular top displays a central oval inlay motif within a bordered edge, above four graduated drawer fronts accented with delicate stringing. Below, turned wooden legs terminate in brass castors for ease of movement. Practical dimensions measure 72 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 33 cm deep. Placed beside a sofa or chair in a living room or study, this piece provides compact bedside or occasional surface space alongside concealed storage within its compact footprint. The traditional proportions and warm timber tones suit both classic English Country House interiors and period-inspired living spaces.

Nineteenth-century work tables were compact items of furniture designed primarily for domestic tasks such as needlework, embroidery, and writing, commonly positioned in drawing rooms.

Makers predominantly utilised solid mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, frequently incorporating boxwood or satinwood stringing, marquetry inlays, brass hardware, and turned support legs.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-dovetailed drawer joints, period-correct brass handles, original castor wheels, and natural age-related patination to the timber finish.

These functional tables serve effectively as bedside stands, sofa end tables, or accent pieces in entryways, pairing alongside contemporary lighting and neutral upholstery.

Maintain the timber finish by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, applying beeswax sparingly once or twice a year, and keeping the item away from direct heat sources.
