FAQs

A Victorian nursing chair is a low-built, armless chair designed during the nineteenth century primarily to facilitate childcare and nursing in domestic spaces.

Nineteenth-century rosewood chairs frequently feature solid or veneered rosewood timber, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and hand-carved elements such as barley twist turnings and scrollwork.

Authentic pieces typically display dense dark grain with distinct striping, evidence of hand-carved decoration, traditional joinery techniques, and natural patination across original woodwork surfaces.

A Victorian nursing chair functions effectively as a decorative accent in a bedroom corner, hallway, or dressing room alongside modern textiles to highlight the intricate woodwork.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources and sunlight to avoid wood splitting or fabric fading, and apply beeswax polish occasionally to protect the timber surface.
