Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of late Victorian bedroom chairs possesses a classic period silhouette defined by low seat profiles and upright channel backs. The exposed wooden frames are constructed from warm brown walnut, enriched with delicate carved cresting details along the curved rails and supported by graceful cabriole legs ending in small metal castors. Each piece is fully upholstered in a light green textile featuring a small-scale patterned geometric design across both the seat cushions and the rounded backrests. Designed for placement in a bedroom or dressing room, these versatile seats provide comfortable low-level lounging while introducing subtle Victorian charm to an interior. They integrate seamlessly into traditional English Country House schemes, working well as occasional seating beside a dressing table, within a guest bedroom, or paired together in a quiet corner of a living space.

FAQs

Victorian bedroom chairs, frequently termed slipper or nursing chairs, typically feature low seat heights, carved timber frames, and padded upholstery designed for dressing rooms and private quarters during the late nineteenth century.

Seating from this period predominantly used hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, paired with traditional coil springs, webbing, horsehair padding, and patterned woven textiles.

Authentic examples display hand-carved wood detailing along the frame edges, original brass or ceramic castors on front cabriole legs, and period-correct upholstery construction techniques visible beneath the frame.

A pair of low-profile Victorian chairs can be placed at the foot of a bed, positioned within a dressing area, or arranged in a window alcove to provide contrast against contemporary decorative elements.

Walnut timber frames require periodic dusting and light applications of natural beeswax, while the fabric upholstery should be vacuumed gently using a soft brush attachment and kept out of direct sunlight.
