Earl and Rymer has dated these Neoclassical Painted Side Chairs to the 19th Century.
Associated with Hermes (Mercury), the Caduceus serves as a classical symbol of trade, commerce, and diplomacy, as well as a long-standing emblem of medicine.

Typical of Northern European Neoclassical and Gustavian design, the wooden frames retain a wonderfully authentic distressed, patinated painted finish. The corners are accented with decorative gilt rosette appliques, leading down to parcel-gilt tapering legs with fluted details.

The seats have been newly reupholstered in a beautiful silk, bordered with contrasting studding over matching trim.
Condition: Very good structural condition with beautiful, authentic surface wear and patina to the painted finish. Seats are newly upholstered in silk.
Measurements: Height 85cm x Width 44cm x Depth 45cm. Seat Height approximately 47cm.
