Marlborough Antiques & Interiors has dated this William IV Oak Armchair to the 19th Century.

Other measurements : Height to seat 38cm and seat depth 60cm.
The upholstered armrests are supported by substantial, finely carved scrolling supports, decorated with foliate detailing.

The generous seat is raised on boldly turned and carved front legs, with gracefully swept sabre legs to the rear, all terminating in castors.
The oak frame has acquired a rich, warm colour and attractive patina, highlighting the quality of the carving and the distinctive design of the William IV period.

The chair is offered stripped of its former upholstery and presently covered in hessian, ready for the purchaser to upholster in a fabric of their own choosing. This provides an excellent opportunity to create a unique and individual piece while preserving the character of the original nineteenth-century frame.
With its impressive proportions, elegant silhouette and decorative carving, this chair would make a particularly handsome addition to a drawing room, library, bedroom or country house interior, equally suited to traditional and contemporary settings.
English, William IV period, circa 1835.
Condition: Good antique condition to the visible frame, with attractive colour and patina and wear consistent with age. Offered in hessian, requiring final upholstery by the purchaser.
