Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This commercial vertical filing cabinet from the 1900s has four stacked drawers. Constructed from solid oak with quarter-sawn panels, it displays a warm golden brown timber hue with visible grain patterns, rounded front vertical corners, and panelled side casing. The piece includes original brass hardware consisting of rectangular card holders, shaped cup pull handles, and keyhole escutcheons positioned at the base of each drawer. Additional visible details include minor surface marks and wear across the wooden surfaces, and a slight area of damage to the top left side panel. Measuring 131.5 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 70 cm deep, this vertical storage unit suits a home study or gentleman's library for organising documents while maintaining an early twentieth-century aesthetic. Buyers can integrate the cabinet beside a traditional partner's desk or within a study space to house paperwork and office supplies.

FAQs

Vertical filing cabinets emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to replace flat document storage systems, enabling businesses to organise papers systematically in labelled upright files.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed from solid oak or pine, featuring joinery designed for commercial use alongside cast brass or iron drawer pulls and index label holders.

Authentic period examples exhibit original brass hardware, index card slots, solid wood side panels, drawer lock mechanisms, and age-consistent surface wear.

Position the unit in a contemporary study, hallway, or living room to serve as practical storage for paperwork, craft supplies, or home office accessories while adding historical context.

Dust the surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and periodically apply a natural beeswax polish following the wood grain to maintain the timber condition and protect brass metalwork.
