This early 18th century Irish Queen Anne walnut corner chair exemplifies the classic style of the period with a dark brown finish. The timber structure incorporates a curved horseshoe armrest supported by turned columns, dual pierced splats, and shaped wooden rails beneath the drop-in seat. The upholstered cushion has a patterned green textile covering, while the front leg takes a cabriole form terminating in a pad foot, complemented by three straight back legs. Height - 82 cm, depth - 64 cm, height to seat - 46 cm, seat - 47 cm square. In a modern home, this armchair serves well as a desk chair or an accent seat in a living room, hallway, or bedroom corner. The upholstered drop-in seat has been re-webbed and re-covered, maintaining an excellent condition suitable for daily use while retaining its traditional historic character.

A Queen Anne corner chair, also known as a roundabout chair, features a square frame set at a forty-five-degree angle with a central front leg, curved backrail, and decorative splats designed to fit into room corners or beside writing desks.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid walnut, mahogany, or native hardwoods, featuring drop-in upholstered seats, hand-carved pierced splats, turned supports, and shaped cabriole legs.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, asymmetrical wear patterns on legs and stretchers, original tool marks, and pad feet or cabriole legs carved directly from the timber frame.

Position the chair in an underutilised corner of a study or living space, pair it with a low reading lamp, or use it as an accent piece alongside contemporary neutral textiles to highlight its woodwork.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually, and clean upholstery gently with a soft brush.
