Dimensions:W: 157cm (61.8")H: 208cm (81.9")

Huge and impressive antique French gilt rectangular mirror. Better photos to follow.

It dates from the early 1800s.

It has its original substantial real gilt (gold leaf) on gesso frame with lovely floral gesso detail in excellent condition with no chips.

It has its lovely original foxed mercury glass. Mercury glass was not made after 1840.

It could be hung portrait or landscape.. Perfect leaner mirror in a large living room perhaps.

Originating in France during the Second Empire (18521870), Napoleon III mirrors feature elaborate gilded wooden frames decorated with plaster composition mouldings, often incorporating beaded borders, foliate cartouches, and neoclassical scrolling.

These frames were constructed from solid timber coated in gesso and composition plaster, finished with hand-applied gold leaf gilding, and fitted with mercury-backed glass plates.
