Description

A very rare pair of 19th Century finely hand carved giltwood overmantel mirrors of exceptional quality, all original and of massively grand proportions. The mirror glass plates of shaped, rectangular form are set within gorgeous moulded and fluted giltwood frames with decorative beaded row and rope twist detailing throughout. Surmounted with an exquisite pierced centred crest composition of acanthus leaves and ruffles flanked with richly scrolling foliate, lozenge and ruffle motifs, stunningly carved in high relief. The shaped platform base features a fabulous panel of trailing foliate delicately carved in low relief and further arrangements of acanthus leaves and ruffles to each side.
