This George II walnut and parcel-gilt pier mirror dates from the mid-18th century. The shaped warm brown walnut frame is articulated with scrolling fretwork and parcel gilding, centred above by a boldly carved gold foliate crest, with further gilt floral and fruiting ornament running down the sides and a carved shell motif to the lower apron. The arched mirror plate sits within a moulded inner slip and displays extensive foxing and degradation to the silvering. The piece measures 110 cm high, 59 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. It is designed to be hung above a sideboard in a living room, hallway, or dining room to add a traditional English country house aesthetic to an interior.
