This 19th-century elbow or desk chair is formed from mahogany in the Country Chippendale style, presenting a rich warm brown timber tone. The open pierced splat back features vertical slats, complemented by scrolling carved armrests and a drop-in seat upholstered in a textured olive green fabric. Straight square legs support the frame below a plain wooden seat rail. Measuring 97 cm high, 66 cm wide and 47 cm deep with a 44 cm seat height, the chair fits well as a desk seat or side chair in a study, library or bedroom. Its sturdy proportions and classic profile suit traditional home offices, reading corners or traditional dining spaces.

Originating in the eighteenth century, Chippendale style furniture is defined by detailed woodwork, serpentine top rails, intricate pierced back splats, and sturdy cabriole or square legs.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from dense mahogany or native hardwoods, often paired with drop-in upholstered seats featuring natural woven textiles or velvet.

Authentic construction typically displays hand-carved joinery, hand-sawn timber marks on hidden surfaces, traditional mortise and tenon joints, and naturally aged timber patination.

This design functions effectively as a statement desk chair in a home study, an accent chair in a hallway, or alongside contemporary dining furniture for contrast.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
