Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Recessed screw fixings inside the seat blocks: standard cabinet making around 1900.
Dished saddle seat cut from a single wide plank: skilled Edwardian workshop production.
High back with vasiform splat: early twentieth-century Queen Anne revival design.
Gentle rubbing to the armrests and pad feet: natural handling over decades.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1900 Queen Anne Revival high back desk armchair is made from dark brown mahogany with a polished finish. The design incorporates a solid timber contoured wooden seat with a rich grain, a tall vasiform back splat, outswung armrests, and cabriole front legs ending in pad feet. The high-backed frame provides firm support for a user seated at a desk or in a traditional workspace. Measuring 120 cm high and 60 cm wide, this piece is proportioned for daily utility in a home study, gentleman's library, or traditional office setting. Its classic silhouette and solid wood construction make it suitable for placement as a primary working chair or an accent seat alongside a partner desk. The clean lines and period styling coordinate effectively with traditional and transitional interior schemes, providing a functional seating option for reading, writing, or computer work.

FAQs

Queen Anne revival chairs are characterised by subtle curves, vasiform or fiddle-back central splats, cabriole legs, and understated carved details that emphasize timber grain over heavy embellishment.

These armchairs were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often finished with natural oil or beeswax to enhance the timber grain.

Authentic pieces feature traditional mortise and tenon joinery, natural patination on the armrests and leg tips, solid wood construction, and hand-finished splat back shaping.

Position the armchair alongside a minimalist desk, place it in an empty corner as a accent chair, or use it at the head of a dining table to create visual contrast.

Dust regularly with a dry soft cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually along the grain, and position the chair away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber drying.
