We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dutch marquetry furniture is characteristically decorated with detailed wood inlays depicting floral arrangements, foliage, birds, and urn motifs. Originating in the Netherlands during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, these pieces combine rich walnut veneers with contrasting fruitwood inlays to create decorative surface patterns.

These cabinets were typically constructed with an oak carcase layered with walnut veneers. The intricate marquetry inlay utilized various light and stained hardwoods, such as boxwood, holly, sycamore, and fruitwoods, alongside glass pane glazing and brass hardware.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut marquetry with natural variations, hand-blown glass panes with slight ripples or bubbles, and hand-joined oak carcase construction featuring hand-cut dovetails and wooden pegs.

A marquetry display cabinet serves as a focal piece when set against modern, neutral walls. Styling the glass shelves with contemporary ceramics, glassware, or curated books creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and minimalist modern decor.

Keep the cabinet in an environment with stable humidity to prevent the thin timber veneers and inlays from lifting or cracking. Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax sparingly to preserve the wood finish, avoiding direct sunlight and proximity to heat sources.
