Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian carved oak mirrors from around 1890 are characterized by historic revival motifs, heavily detailed woodwork, and structural symmetry. Influenced by Renaissance and Jacobean styles, these pieces feature deep relief carvings such as acanthus leaves, scrollwork, and central crestings.

Mirrors from this period were crafted primarily from solid English or European oak, often finished with a dark stain or wax to highlight the grain. The mirror plates were typically hand-cut bevelled glass with silver backing.

Authentic period mirrors display hand-carving marks on the reverse or within deep relief work, natural shrinkage or minor oxidisation in the silvered glass plate, and original iron hanging fittings or wooden backboards fixed with historic screws.

An oversized carved oak mirror serves as a focal point when mounted above a hallway console table, a living room mantelpiece, or alongside contrasting modern furnishings to highlight the detailed woodwork.

Dust the carved frame regularly using a soft dry brush to prevent dirt accumulation in detailed areas, and apply natural beeswax annually to protect the wood. Clean the glass plate with a lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid contact with the timber frame.
