Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency seating, dating roughly from 1811 to 1830, is defined by classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian architectural influences. Common design elements include saber legs, ebonised or painted finishes, parcel gilding, and Greco-Roman motifs such as eagle heads, acanthus leaves, and carved paw feet.

Makers commonly used dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or painted beech for structural framing. Accents often incorporated parcel gilding, brass inlay, ebonised finishes, and hand-carved decorative elements, paired with traditional coil springs and webbed seat frames.

Authentic Regency armchairs feature period-appropriate hand-joinery, such as mortise and tenon construction, evidence of hand-carving on decorative terminals, and genuine water or oil gilding over gesso. Original ebonised finishes frequently exhibit natural patination and minor craquelure consistent with age.

A dark ebonised and gilt armchair serves as a structured focal accent alongside modern minimal upholstery or clean architectural lines. Positioning the chair near a simple floor lamp or set against light-toned walls creates balanced visual contrast while highlighting its sculptural silhouette.

Keep gilt and ebonised surfaces away from direct sunlight, central heating sources, and excess humidity to prevent flaking gesso or timber movement. Clean gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding commercial chemical polishes or water-based liquids that can erode delicate gilding.
