Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Kashmiri papier-mache box is a traditional decorative container crafted using a paper pulp technique known as Kari-kalamdan, introduced to Kashmir from Persia in the 15th century. These objects were historically crafted to store writing implements, documents, or personal items, and are distinguished by dense, hand-painted floral patterns.

The core structure is formed by layering paper pulp over wooden or plaster moulds, which are dried, sanded, and smoothed. Craftsmen then apply base pigments before painting intricate floral arabesque motifs using fine brushes and gold leaf, sealing the surface with a protective lacquer varnish.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature highly detailed, hand-painted floral decoration with subtle variations in paint application. They typically exhibit fine age-related crazing within the clear lacquer varnish, smooth rounded contours, and a light yet solid structural feel.

Place the casket on a neutral timber sideboard, marble mantelpiece, or glass coffee table to let its deep pigments and gold motifs serve as a focal point. Combining the piece with modern glass or brass accessories creates an appealing contrast between traditional hand craftsmanship and clean contemporary lines.

Display the piece in a dry room away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent cracking or discoloration of the lacquer. Wipe gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid solvents, commercial furniture polishes, or water which can degrade the underlying paper structure.
