A superb Victorian toilet mirror in satinwood, with barley twist uprights and an elegant arched top. The frame has been left completely untouched, with a soft aged tone that pairs beautifully with the original mercury glass plate.

Excellent antique condition. The mirror plate shows minor foxing and the distinctive sparkle associated with mercury silvering. Very few marks overall - beautifully preserved.

A toilet mirror, also known as a dressing glass or toilet glass, is a free-standing tabletop mirror developed in the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. It was traditionally placed on a dressing table or chest of drawers to assist with personal grooming and dressing.

Victorian cabinet-makers commonly constructed toilet mirrors using hardwoods such as satinwood, mahogany, and rosewood. Mirrors from this era frequently featured mercury glass plates and turned wooden uprights held together with internal mortise and tenon joinery.
