Description:
This is a fine-quality antique English set of six Victorian mahogany dining chairs, made from solid mahogany with "balloon" shaped backs, featuring newly upholstered seats, circa 1860, and in excellent condition. This set of antique balloon-back chairs are ideal for use as Victorian dining chairs, or as occasional chairs around the home, ranging from bedroom chairs to hall chairs, or even for use in the home office.
In addition, we have newly upholstered the drop-in seats to a professional standard in a neutral colour, hardwearing hopsack chenille weave upholstery, and finished them with a traditional hessian to the underside. As a result, the upholstery is clean and free from wear and marks. However, if you do not like the colour or style of the upholstery, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice (we charge £25 labour per seat to recover the seats in your fabric). Finally, the six antique mahogany chairs stand on elegant, turned, tapering front legs, with sabre legs to the rear.
Condition Report:
In summary, this antique English set of six Victorian mahogany dining chairs is in excellent overall condition. To begin with, we have cleaned and French-polished the chair frames by hand to a professional standard, and since the chairs retain their original patination, they boast a stunning, rich colour. Additionally, there are nominal old-use marks to the leading edges of the chair frames, but nothing significant considering their age. We have also newly upholstered the drop-in seats to a professional standard, finishing them with a traditional hessian to the underside; as a result, the upholstery is clean and free from wear and marks. That said, if you would prefer a different colour or style, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice (we charge £25 labour per seat to recover the seats in your fabric). Overall, the chair frames and joints are all in excellent condition, solid at the joints and ready to use.
