Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, also referred to as a dressing mirror or vanity mirror, is a free-standing mirror created to rest atop a dressing table, chest of drawers, or sideboard. Popularised in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these mirrors were essential functional accessories for personal grooming.

High-quality toilet mirrors from this era were primarily constructed using figurative hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. Decorators frequently embellished the frames with cast gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, bevelled glass, and intricate wood veneers.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on base drawers or plinths, natural ageing to the timber veneer, and heavy, detailed cast-bronze mounts with subtle patination. The reverse side typically shows hand-sawn backing boards and original brass securing hardware.

Position the mirror on a contemporary console table or bedroom sideboard to serve as a focal point. Layering the piece with minimalist ceramics, modern lighting, or textured foliage creates a balanced juxtaposition between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the wood grain. Dust ormolu metalwork gently with a dry soft-bristled brush, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that could strip the original gilding or patina.
