Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France during the early twentieth century, the club chair was initially termed the fauteuil confortable to distinguish it from traditional upright seating. Popularised during the Art Deco era, these chairs became staples in modern French interiors, private clubs, and literary salons due to their deep cushions and padded armrests.

Period French club chairs were typically constructed using solid beech or oak internal framing, hand-tied steel coil springs, coconut fibre or horsehair padding, and supple sheepskin leather, historically known as basane leather.

Authentic pieces feature traditional upholstery construction, such as hand-stitched piping, coil springs visible from underneath, solid wooden block feet, and natural surface craquelure or creasing developed across decades of use.

Integrate the chair into a modern living room or reading nook alongside clean-lined side tables, contemporary floor lamps, or woven textiles to create a tactile contrast between historical leather and modern finishes.

Dust the leather regular with a soft, dry cloth and apply specialized leather conditioners or wax creams periodically to prevent drying. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to preserve the patinated surface.
