Gary Wright Antiques Ltd has dated this Lacquered Chest on Stand to the 19th Century.
Raised on a good ebonised low stand having a moulded edge, shaped aprons and raised on square section cabriole legs; trunk lifting off the stand so could be used separately. The stand probably made in England at a slightly later date than the chest. All decoration is repeated on the back so can be used free standing. These desirable trunks were produced in the early C19th in the Bareilly region of India predominantly for the growing appetite of wealthy Europeans for highly decorative and lacquered furniture.

Good sound and stable original condition with some wear and minor historic distressing commensurate with age and use.
