Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A carver chair is an armchair traditionally placed at the head of a dining table or used at a writing desk, featuring supportive armrests and solid timber construction. During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, these pieces frequently combined oak frames with upholstered seats and carved splats.

Chairs from this period were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Seats were often upholstered in natural leather or heavy woven textiles secured with brass studding over supportive padding.

Authentic period chairs display hand-finished timber joinery, natural surface patination, and genuine leather upholstery held by antique brass studs. Look for hand-turned stretchers, carved back details, and subtle variation in timber tone that indicates genuine age.

An antique carver chair functions effectively as a standalone desk seat in a study or as an accent chair in a hallway. Pairing dark oak and red leather with neutral wall colours and contemporary desk accessories creates a balanced interior scheme.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to protect the oak. Clean the leather seat with a dry cloth and apply a leather conditioner periodically to maintain supple upholstery without damaging historic patination.
