This large George IV rosewood library armchair originates from the Regency period, circa 1820. The piece is upholstered in olive green hide featuring deep button tufting across the tall backrest, seat, and padded armrests. The dark timber frame exhibits panelled uprights decorated with brass inlay, carved anthemion motifs, and decorative mouldings. It stands on turned and reeded front legs fitted with brass castors. General surface wear, scuffing, and patination are visible on the leather and wood surfaces, consistent with age and use. The chair measures 101 cm high, 74.5 cm wide, and 74 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a gentleman's study, library, or traditional living room, this armchair provides comfortable seating for reading or working at a desk. The sturdy construction and classic proportions make it a functional accent piece that integrates easily with period or transitional interior schemes. Regular leather conditioning and gentle dusting help maintain the finish of the wood and hide.

George IV furniture, dating from the 1820s, builds upon Regency classicism with substantial proportions, rich timbers such as rosewood and mahogany, and elaborate brass inlay or carved classical motifs like anthemions.

Nineteenth-century library chairs were framed in solid hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, stuffed with natural horsehair, upholstered in hide leather, and finished with brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details, original brass cup castors, brass inlay set flush with the timber, and evidence of hand-construction such as lap joints and hand-stitched leather work.

Place the chair beside a minimalist side table or a dark wood desk to create a functional focal point within a study, drawing room, or contemporary living space.

Keep upholstered leather away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, apply specialist leather wax periodically, and clean timber components with a soft dry cloth.
