A matched pair of Anglo-Indian wall sconces dating to 1880, produced in North India from dark brown hardwood and glass with brass hardware. The rectangular frames exhibit deep floral relief carving, openwork foliage, and stepped mouldings surrounding central bevelled mirror plates, mounted with projecting brass candle sockets. Signs of age appear in the warm patina of the timber and the aged metallic finish of the candle arms. Each sconce measures 34 cm high, 25 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. These decorative pieces suit a narrow wall space in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, bringing a distinctive Glastonbury Boho character to interior schemes. They mount securely to vertical surfaces to provide ambient wall lighting and reflective depth.

A mirrored wall sconce is a decorative wall-mounted fixture combining a reflective mirror panel with a candle socket or holder. Popularised across Europe and Asia from the seventeenth century onwards, these fixtures reflected candlelight to increase light distribution within interior spaces.

North Indian sconces typically feature hand-carved dense hardwoods such as rosewood, teak, or sheesham, integrated with brass or copper metalwork for candle sockets and bevelled or flat glass panels.

Authentic hand-carved wooden sconces show subtle variations in carving depth, tool marks within the openwork relief, hand-cut joinery on the reverse, and natural patination on both the timber surface and metal components.

Position mirrored sconces in pairs along hallway walls, flanking a central console table, or within narrow alcoves to add architectural depth, metallic accents, and carved timber textures to modern interior schemes.

Dust the carved woodwork regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush, clean glass panels with a microfiber cloth, and avoid harsh chemical polishes to preserve the natural wax finish and original brass patination.
