This set of eight Georgian Regency mahogany dining chairs includes six single chairs and two carvers with dark brown wood finishes and gold velvet upholstered stuff-over seats. The backs showcase three detailed and carved uprights with spindle back splats and diamond accents, framed by a moulded top rail and fluted sides. The single chairs stand on square tapered legs with spade feet, while the armchairs feature moulded arms on fluted supports. The armchairs measure 94 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 48 cm deep. These dining chairs suit formal dining rooms, seating guests comfortably around a large dining table for dinner parties and family meals.

Regency dining chairs, dating from the early nineteenth century, are defined by classical proportions, clean architectural lines, and refined backrest details such as turned spindles, bar backs, or scrollwork. They were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany and frequently designed as matching sets containing both side chairs and armchairs with out-swept arms.

Primary construction utilised solid West Indian or South American mahogany for the frame, valued for its density and fine grain. Seat frames were typically webbed and padded using natural horsehair, covered in wool, silk, or velvet upholstery, and secured with brass studs.

Authentic Regency chairs exhibit hand-cut joinery including mortise and tenon joints, subtle irregularities from hand-tooling, and natural patination on the timber finish. Original pieces often show historical seat frame construction with corner blocks and hand-formed brass upholstery tacks rather than modern machine staples.

To integrate Regency chairs into modern spaces, pair them with contemporary dining tables made from glass, marble, or minimalist timber. The warm tones of mahogany contrast effectively against neutral wall palettes, lime washes, or modern architectural backdrops.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, joint loosening, and fabric fading.
