Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian slipper chair is an armless, low-seated upholstered chair introduced during the 19th century. Originally created for womens dressing rooms to make putting on stockings and slippers easier, these chairs feature compact proportions and decorative woodwork.

Mid-19th-century slipper chairs were built with solid hardwood frames, predominantly mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Internal construction utilized hand-tied steel coil springs, natural hair padding, cotton wadding, and turned legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentic period examples display hand-carved or spiral-turned timber legs, brass or porcelain socket castors, deep buttoned upholstery, and swept-back rear legs. The underside often shows hand-tacked webbing and original timber joinery.

Position a slipper chair in a bedroom corner, dressing room, or adjacent to a fireplace to provide low-profile seating. The compact, armless design allows it to function effectively in smaller spaces without obstructing light or sightlines.

Protect timber legs by applying clear beeswax and buffing along the grain, keeping brass castors clean. Upholstered fabrics require gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and immediate spot-cleaning with appropriate textile cleaners.
