Description

Traditional 19th century hand painted scandinavian box circa 1860.

Rustic made piece from sweden that was used to help secure a person’s possessions.

Oval shaped with a slight domed lid, decorated with black painted strapwork, ring handles to the sides and a carrying handle to the top.  hand painted in the traditional kurbit manner with a base brown colour scheme.  lock has been removed.  interior has been later painted a creamy white.

Minor age splits and losses to woodwork and surface scuffs, a fine example of this traditional swedish box.
