Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This nineteenth-century Scandinavian country box is constructed from pine, iron, and paint, presented in an ochre brown colour. The oval-shaped piece features an arched lid with a top carrying handle, side ring handles, a front keyhole escutcheon, and black iron strapwork banding. Hand-painted ornamentation in a Kurbit rosemaling scrollwork design decorates the exterior, complemented by minor age splits, losses to the woodwork, surface scuffs, and an absent lock. Measuring 29.2 cm high, 55.9 cm wide, and 39.3 cm deep, it provides a practical storage accessory for everyday possessions. Placed on top of a sideboard in a rustic farmhouse interior, it serves as a decorative storage container for small household items.

FAQs

Scandinavian folk art emerged in rural Nordic communities during the 18th and 19th centuries, characterised by hand-painted decorative motifs such as rosemaling and kurbits on functional wooden objects.

These boxes were typically constructed from local softwoods like pine or spruce, often using bentwood techniques, and reinforced with hand-forged iron straps and mineral-based paint pigments.

Authentic examples display natural age-related wear, hand-forged ironwork with visible hammer marks, historical joinery methods, and layered paint featuring traditional regional scrollwork patterns.

Place the box on a hallway console table, bookshelf, or sideboard as a focal accent piece, pairing its warm tones and detailed motifs with contemporary neutral backgrounds.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth, avoid cleaning with water or chemical solvents that could strip the paint, and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
