Antique Victorian Upholstered Armchair

Description

A Victorian upholstered armchair of charming proportions and presence. The chair has a well-defined mahogany frame with finely shaped scrolled arms. The mahogany has a warm tone, highlighting the quality of the carving. It stands on turned front legs and outswept back legs, all mounted on castors. The chair is upholstered in a silk-type fabric embroidered with flowers on a striped ground. The upholstery follows the shape of the frame and complements the tone of the mahogany. A comfortable and attractive chair, well suited for use as a bedroom or occasional chair.

CONDITION REPORT:

The chair is in good antique condition, with wear consistent with use and age. There is staining to the lower front area of the upholstery, as photographed, along with discolouration to the edges, likely caused by the colouring of historic glue. These areas could be easily improved or concealed with replacement trim if desired. The upholstery is otherwise sound and serviceable. The frame is structurally solid, with minor knocks and surface wear in keeping with its age.
