Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Traditional Swedish painted boxes, often referred to as svepask or dowry boxes, are handcrafted bentwood containers decorated with regional folk art motifs such as kurbits or rosemaling. Popular during the 18th and 19th centuries in rural Sweden, these containers were constructed to store valuables, textiles, and personal possessions.

These boxes were typically constructed from thin, bent strips of native softwoods like pine or spruce, fastened together with root bindings or wooden pegs. Iron bands and latches were added for structural reinforcement, while the surface was finished with mineral-pigment oil or tempera paint.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-forged wrought iron fittings, natural craquelure in the painted surface, and uneven wear patterns consistent with age. Construction markers such as hand-cut wooden pegs, bentwood seams, and traditional regional brushwork techniques also indicate genuine period origin.

A Scandinavian painted box works as an accent piece when displayed on a sideboard, console table, or deep shelf in modern or rustic interiors. Its rich timber tones and graphic painted patterns create an appealing contrast against minimalist backgrounds or neutral colour palettes.

Dust the surface gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding wet cloths or commercial liquid detergents that could damage historic paint layers. Keep the piece in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage and paint flaking.
