Description

A Set of Six Art Deco Walnut Dining Chairs

Item Code: LC1388

Description

A stylish and well-proportioned set of six Art Deco dining chairs, English, dating to circa 1930. The set comprises four single chairs and two carver chairs, all constructed in attractive walnut with beautifully figured veneers to the shaped back splats.

The chairs feature elegant curved backs, gently splayed and fluted legs, and well-shaped arms to the carvers, reflecting the refined lines and understated glamour of the Art Deco period. Each chair retains its upholstered seat, finished in a deep blue floral needlework fabric, which complements the warm tone of the walnut frames.

The chairs are solid and comfortable, with good colour and patination throughout, making them well suited for both everyday use and decorative display around a dining table or as occasional seating.

A particularly appealing and versatile set, combining quality craftsmanship with timeless Art Deco design.

Art Deco furniture emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric lines, stylised motifs, and the use of luxurious materials such as burr walnut and exotic veneers.

These pieces typically feature solid frames with decorative wood veneers, often combined with high-quality joinery and traditional upholstery methods such as sprung seats and patterned textiles.

Authenticity is determined by examining the construction joints, timber aging, veneer thickness, original hardware, and traditional upholstery materials underneath the fabric.

They work well as a striking contrast around a minimalist contemporary dining table, or integrated into a maximalist scheme to add historical texture and refined craftsmanship.

Keep wooden surfaces away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and feed the timber periodically with appropriate furniture wax.
