Os de mouton translates from French as sheep bone, referring to the distinct curved and scrolled shape of furniture legs characteristic of late 17th-century Baroque styles, which was later revived in the early 20th century.

These chairs typically feature solid hardwood frames, such as walnut or oak, hand-carved details, traditional horsehair or stuffing, and upholstery in natural fabrics like linen or wool.

Authentication involves examining the joinery, timber ageing, tool marks on the carved elements, and the inner webbing or stuffing materials to determine if they match historical production methods.

They make striking accent pieces in a living room or study, pairing well with minimalist modern furnishings to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Preservation requires keeping wooden frames away from direct heat sources, using specialist wood wax periodically, and gently vacuuming or professionally cleaning the upholstery to protect delicate textiles.
