FAQs

Decanter boxes gained popularity during the Georgian era as affluent households required secure, portable storage for fine wines and spirits stored in dining rooms or drawing rooms.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and intricate satinwood or boxwood stringing and marquetry.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the aged patina of the wood, hand-cut joinery, original brass escutcheons, hand-carved or inlaid motifs, and interior compartments designed specifically for glass bottles.

Positioning the box on a sideboard or console table adds a layer of historical texture and refined craftsmanship, contrasting effectively against contemporary minimalist furniture.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish and protect the finish.
