The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavier, ornate designs to more refined, classical proportions inspired by Palladian architecture.

These chairs are typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, ash, or elm, utilizing traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon, with seats woven from natural rush or straw.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut joinery, signs of genuine age such as surface oxidisation and wear patterns on the footfalls, tool marks from hand-working the timber, and historical consistency in design proportions.

They can be paired with a contemporary dining table to create a deliberate contrast between modern minimalism and historical craftsmanship, adding texture and warmth to a neutral space.

Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the timber from drying out and the rush from becoming brittle; maintain them by dusting with a dry cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax.
