This Victorian corner armchair from the nineteenth century combines traditional seating design with restored upholstery. The piece stands on turned rosewood legs fitted with original brass castors and features a continuous curved backrest finished with silver-toned nailhead trim along the borders. The frame is upholstered in purple velvet across the deep seat and wraparound back. Additional visible elements include the dark timber grain of the legs, the polished metallic finish of the castors, and the tight tacking pattern following the contours of the arms. Measuring 85 cm wide by 85 cm deep by 75 cm high, the armchair provides a compact footprint suited for placement in a gentlemen's library, study, or living room corner. The seat height and supportive angled back offer comfortable lounge seating while maintaining a distinctive silhouette that functions well as an accent piece in traditional or contemporary interiors.

The corner chair, or writing chair, gained popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries as a space-saving seating solution engineered with a diagonal seat pan to fit neatly into room corners.

Seating from this period was constructed using solid hardwood frames such as mahogany or walnut, incorporating turned wooden legs, brass castors, horsehair padding, coil springs, and woven upholstery fabrics.

Authentic period armchairs feature hand-carved turned legs, original brass castors with stamped maker details, hand-tacked upholstery foundations, and occasionally maker stamps embedded into the wooden frame rails.

Position the piece within an underutilised bedroom alcove or hallway corner to form a reading area, pairing bold upholstery with neutral wall finishes and modern floor lighting for contrast.

Vacuum the fabric gently using a soft brush attachment following the direction of the pile, position wooden legs away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement, and blot spills immediately with a dry cloth.
